Like another poster said, there was a group of students here in the UK that admitted attempting to fool people. Saying that though, their circles were nowhere near as complex as most and none of the proven fakes have the characteristics of the majority of all the unexplained ones about, ie:molecular and cellular damage to the plant tissues, increased radiation levels, sterility in the plants that have been bent, brittle stalks that have been bent at 90 degrees without being damaged and the plain fact that nearly all of them only took a short time to appear.
There was one a while back that appeared adjacent to Stonehenge, here in the UK.The thing that made it unlikely to have been a con was the fact there were security guards at Stonehenge who saw nothing.(they were ruled out during investigations)and it was right next to a main road!
It could all be a really, really big world-wide con, although the OFFICIAL excuse for them is they are 'caused by natural phenomena', as in Earths magnetic fluctuations, etc(!)
Another reason for the 'con' idea to be dismissed is the simple fact that the amount of radiation change within the circles would indicate that anyone using something that produced that much radiation would be causing severe, irreversible damage to themselves too, as is seen in the plant matter inside(not outside, though)the circles.
has the mystery of the Crop circles been debunked? No, not yet.

Not entirely. Though an group in the UK admitted to staging them and creating them. They occur other places as well. Infact in 1989 a crop circle showed up just outside of Lake Illiamna, Alaska. It was in the middle of the wilderness where, at that time, only ONE family lived. The family discovered it when they were taking relatives from Fairbanks up in their new cub Cesna airplane. That one has never been explained. It also looked VERY different from traditional crop circles, as it was burned into the flora of the area, not merely pushed over.
