If I want to use the cloth, like everyone has suggested, (thanks BTW). What is a good product to put on the grass to kill it all, BEFORE I install the cloth, then spread the mulch. I have weedwacked the grass very short but thought it might be better to kill it before the install. Thoughts??? Thanks everyone :)

By all means, kill the grass first. Plastics or fabrics alone will not keep it from coming back. Bermuda grass and nutsedge are evils in a flower bed, and blocking sunlight won't stop it. The active ingredient in Round Up is glysophate. You can buy it for far less than Monsanto's brand, Round Up. You will need to mix it strong for a complete kill. Five ounces to a gal. of water is what I use.

Either kill, it or for best results, remove the grass first. Most rental places have a machine called a sod cutter. You line out the bed area with a hose, spray paint the lines, then cut along and inside the lines. the grass rolls up like sod, and can be used to fill in low spots in other areas. Be sure to set it deep enough to get all the roots, or you may be spraying anyway. Also, the best fabric to use is a spun fiber material, not a woven one.

A good weed killer will do. but it is pretty high son i would just cut the grass real short and lay my plastic or what ever your putting under the mulch and it will kill it out because it cant get no sun. and also you need to poke Small holes in the under cover about the size of dimes about a 6in apart so the water can go though it so it would wash your mulch away

I know it may be a little time consuming but I like to stay away from chemicals. I would use black plastic and cover the grass completely, it will eventually die from lack of light and getting very hot under there. Then you'll have to dig up the dead grass, not very fun though.
