Hoobastank came together after Doug and Dan met a high school battle of the bands competition in 1994. They later added Chris and bassist Markku Lappalainen, who left the group about a year ago. "It's not a touchy subject," Doug explains. "To make a long story short, there were definitely musical and artistic differences. There's always going to be different opinions in a group, but as we were together our bass player and our opinions of music and where this band is going was heading further and further apart."
