It's actual called the summer solstice. The longest day and the shortest night. The equinoxs (spring and autumn) are named because the day and nights are equal in length of time. The Summer Solstice is June 21.

There is no equinox in the summer.

The solstice is at 12:26 on June 21 this year.

It is usually on the 21st -- but will be on the 20th in 2008.

The summer solstice is June 21 (the first day of summer).

One poster is inaccurate: the solstices (summer and winter) and the equinoxes (vernal and autumnal) do NOT all begin on the 21st. They vary from year to year due to changes in the the tropical year and the calendar year.
