Well, it has started and can happen here anytime. We have already had some severe weather. Mind you it is pretty sporadic and sparce but you really never know. You shouldn't worry about it. You can figure on a little rain anytime.

Generally speaking you missed it - it ranges from late March through early Summer. There is no specific date like hurricane season. Tornados also are highly unpredictable - they can happen in the Summer or Fall too.

Weather agencies can give tornado warnings (Watch) when the conditions are favorable. They also give another warning (Warning) for when a tornado has actually been spotted. There is nothing in particular you should do to prepare for a possibly tornado (as your question implies). If tornados are all that you have to worry about, you have a pretty relaxed life. I lived in Indiana for 20 years and was never directly affected by tornados.

Listen to the warnings, find low ground and have a solid structure where you can go. Minnesota does generally avoid the collision of warm moist air from the gulf with cool air from parts north which makes an environment rich for significant disturbances. There is a "tornado alley" from Oklahoma through Indiana that sees more tornados than the average - other than perhaps the very southern tip, Minnesota is usually spared tornados. Good luck.

Tornado season starts in the spring when lines of showers or super cells extend through the area but a tornado can occur anywhere on earth at any time of the year. I have lived in Texas for over 30 years and I have only witnessed a tornado on one occaision. Many people live in the middle of the worst tornado areas and never see one in person during their lives. I wouldn't worry about it unduly but be cautious if you hear the warning siren and make sure to check the weather on tv and radio if you think you may be in a compromising position.

I don't think they get that many tornadoes. Tornado Alley involves states like Texas, Kansas, Tennessee, etc. Try looking on http://www.weather.com for specific information.
