Why do all repair shops (I whent to 5 of them) try to con you in to getting a rebuild if you don't need one and why do they all try to act like they are your best friend they all suck at acting because you can tell that all they want is your money as evident with my encounter with Amco transmissions. As soon as I said thats way more exspensive than the competion, why do you charge so much money 2600 compared to (1400 to 1600) he almost immedatly stoped the whole I'm your friend bit and he said to me infront of other people because I can charge that much so if you don't like the price than go some where else. This really pissed me off and I think it made the other people their think twice about having there cars at such a poorly run shop. So before I left I told the guy that he was a peace of S%$T and that he should not be in biusness. I also felt like telling the rest of the tranny shops the same thing but this a hole just made me so mad.

Why do they charge so much, because they can. The most common failure in a transmission is seal and valve failure due to over heating. Most consumer's do not have a clue when it comes a tranny, so they are at the mercy of the shop. Find one of which may be able to repair and not rebuild it, then stick with that shop. You may in future want to change the oil and filter in the transmission when it needs to be changed. This will guaranty a long life. If you do the math. Oil and filter change, 100.00 to 200.00 dollars. A rebuild 1600.00 to 2700.00 dollars. Which makes sense.

Quit complaining. With how much time and skill it takes to re-build automatic trannies, you were getting market price. If you really did a number on yours--and after five shops gave you the same opinion, I'm thinking you did--you can't fix it by dumping more lubricant into the pan. After you factor in parts availability, diagnostic time and "flat-rate" labor rates, transmission re-builds become very expensive very quickly. There are quite a few excellent transmission specialty shops out there--and it's not hard to find them.

It was $1700 to re-build the *front half* of our 98 Ford Taurus' automatic tranny. The shop that handled it has a great reputation and charged a fair rate for their work, and I have no complaints.

The good shops in your area probably have enough hassle without a whining brat like you making their lives miserable. Why did you lose your temper at this shop, instead of taking your car to one of the others that quoted you a price more to your liking? If you did your proper research (like checking with the Better Business Bureau), why did you go to a "disreputable" shop in the first place? And why, if they screwed you over, didn't you just report them to the proper authorities, and make a scene the productive way?

Don't make assumptions about every shop in the world based on the five you tried--because it's ignorant people like you that make life difficult for the poor saps that have to deal with your car and read your tirades online. Cool down--and then re-think your position.

auto-transmissions usually last quite a while if serviced regularly.
that mainly involves changing the oil and adjusting the tension on the belts. it is not a big job.
a rebuild is a different thing altogether.
