Most of you probibly waste 1/4 of your time doing what, NOTHING, what are you acomplishing by laying in bed asleep. You could at least train your self to have lucid dreams, or evin better, not sleep. The brain can be chemicly alterd (with cirtan drugs) to not need sleep, as long as you eat a good nutritous meal every 3 hours or so, and dont become to physicaly active you wont need to sleep. Altho i have noticed a miner glitch, this would effect your spelling, but other than a fue typos, increased appitite, and a weakned imune system, there is no problam. just use spell check, eat alot, and stay inside and youll be fine and have much more time. If the average life span is 80 years, and you spend 1/4 of your life sleeping, This would be like adding an extra 20 years to your life.

"Aaliyah's Mama" is correct, but you can learn to deal with that, gaining 1/4 of your life back is worth it.

Ok, the reason i dont like to sleep, is whin i do sometimes when i wake up i cant move, and i see things, like im still dreaming but im awake and i can not move, this is called sleep paralesis, the haulicanations go away after about 5 minets and you begain to regain muscil control after about 3 mennits, its hard to find out what was real and what wasent after this. Its not worth it.

God created our bodies to sleep. He is also the one who wakes us up to answer that question. If you do not sleep, then you will experience a lot of complications with your body. For one, you will develope serious bags under your eyes, and no girl or guy is turned on by that!! And the answer to your sleep paralesis, is SLEEP!!! your body is probaly so tired that it freeezes just to get some more rest! So i really think that there are far too many reasons to y our body needs rest for you to try to go against. Oh! and by the way, science has proved that our body needs rest and sleep. That is why the doctors in hospitals say ok... it is time for some rest. That is how our body heals itself and gets better. So your reasons to why we need sleep are pretty outnumbered with the reasons why we do.
By the way.. like you said, sleep does help with spelling. I suggest you get some!

No, a waste of time is catching this question instead of going to bed. What do you think you would do with that time if you could somehow get past the body's regenerative needs? I've seen those hyperactive shrews, all wired to the gills and on the go continuously. It was said that Thomas Edison bragged that he was so productive because he slept so little--but those who worked with him knew that he "never met an idea he didn't try to steal" and when you added up all his little catnaps, he got his eight hours in.
Interesting thing about shrews and other always on the go animals--they don't live so long. Go ahead, you'll be dropping into the grave before most of us sluggards are even close to getting sick.

Is productivity so important to you that you sacrifice a good deep rest? Rest is natural, and necessary to be productive. You start to hallucinate, and feel indescribably horrible if you are up for more than a few days.It is impossible to go _without_ sleep without dying sooner than you would if you just relaxed. If you have chronic insomnia, just try melatonin. It is a supplement that you take when you want to go to bed, that mimics the chemical in your brain and normalizes the body. You won't believe how much more productive you are, and how much better you'll feel with sleep. Plus, you should get some sunlight and exercise, I mean, eating a lot, staying in the house, and not sleeping sounds very unhealthy to me.

A waist is the line that increases with your increased eating. Sleep is a phase that the body uses to heal itself. It has been studied that humans don't need the recommended 8 hours, but humans don't naturally sleep with the same rhythm as the sun, so 8 hours covers the overlaps.
Lack of sleep can be a sign of depression, you may want to check that out.
There's an old joke about adding years to your life with exersize, you never get as much time back as the time you put in exersizing!

Wow. Have you been tweeking?
You do realize that yes, the body needs sleep, and actually sleep adds to your lifespan. And no, good nutritious food, although essential, is no replacement. Whoever told you that is not a doctor, because a doctor will tell you that you need it. Without sleep, you go insane and start hallucinating, which would probably explain your rant. Please take a nap. Let your brain go into R.E.M., it needs it.
Besides, even if it were possible, who the hell would want to live the way you are suggesting? That's horrible.

okay you've convinced me I think I will head that way.....to bed that is. Just so you know sleep is not a bad thing though. Your body has an easier time healing itself during the REM cycle of your sleep. Einstien himself slept 12 hours a day or something like that. I would have to look it up but I am tired and I am one that does believe in sleep so good night. Sleep well, friend.

We all must sleep, anyone who is lacking sleep knows that.
Sleep refreshes us and gives our bodies time to rest and rejuvenate.
Strangely enough, though, I once read that there is no scientific evidence to prove that we actually need sleep.
Your theory of chemically altering the brain to stop wanting to go to sleep is absurd.
How long have you been awake? Your spelling is atrocious.

O.K. Aside from the answers you have given yourself (Immune system weakening, weight gain, and muscles atrophying), here is another: The subconscious mind uses sleep to work out problems you may not realize are bothering you. It uses dreams to communicate to you.

The body heals itself during sleep. That is when your body replaces lost cells (including brain cells) and replenishes it's immune system. Without sleep, no repair time, your immune system drops and you become more suseptible to illness; germs and viruses.
