What is your zoning? If it is zoned AGRICULTURE you shouldn't have any problems having pigs. Animal control cannot influence that - it's what your zoning says. Call your county clerk and see what the property is zoned. You might double check - depending on the size of your property - with the county ag agent who would know regulations involved in keeping pigs.

Also it may be a factor if by raising you mean breeding or getting a few and growing them for meat. I can say if you do so discreetly it's better...people are bothered by what they can see. I know someone who had a couple acres and had 5 breeder sows plus show pigs - they were clean and well cared for but weren't seen from the road. Some people complain about whatever they see.

I would say that the quickest and easiest way would be to contact your county agriculture extension agent. You can usually find their phone number or website by searching for them on yahoo. You could also try searching for your state extension agency and they may have a link or phone number for your county office.

I would talk to animal control or humane society and see if there are any laws in your area for that.
