I need help. I've been battling this fricken virus for like 3 weeks. I have Norton antivirus and it still got through.... I went to the Norton website to get help and everything I did there and my own efforts to service the computer has been to no avail. Soo I need your help. Its called C:\WINDOWS\Wmiapsv.exe the W32.Spybot.Worm . Do you have any idea on how to accomplish this feat of destroying this virus?

So, you've been with this trojan for about 3 weeks!
If you are able to delete these(following) files then it's okay else read the note at the end.
TROJAN DESCRIPTION: -
File Names Used: 28
Paths Used: 12
Common File Name: WMIAPSV.EXE
Common Path: %WINDIR%\
Vendor Information: No Vendor details specified
WMIAPSV.EXE may use 28 or more path and file names, these are the most common:
1 :%cache%\content.ie5\????????\photoshop002[1]\PHOTOSHOP002.PIF
2 :%profiles%\ian\local sett...y 2 for picture005.zip\PICTURE005.PIF
3 :%profiles%\kelli\my documents\my pictures\kelli\PICTURE005.PIF
4 :%profiles%\owner\local se...or friendpic002[1].zip\FRIENDPIC002.PIF
5 :%profiles%\the master\loc...or photoshop002[1].zip\PHOTOSHOP002.PIF
6 :%temp%\temporary director...or friendpic002[1].zip\FRIENDPIC002.PIF
7 :%WINDIR%\COMHOST.EXE
8 :?:\SYSTEM VOLUME INFORMAT...F-164D8C1D9EF8}\FIFOED\A0116252.EXE
9 :?:\system volume informat...tore{?sid?}\rp{folder}\A0116252.EXE
File Name Structure: Normal
File and Path Structure: Suspicious, unusually high number of file and path combinations
Moreover it also creates randomly named copies of itself.
For this you at least need to scan all activities since last three weeks. Use windows search service withe the limit date provided.

Note: Download the FREEDos and install it.
Now at boot time start freedos, then you may safely delete any of these files without boundations from DOS.
Else you may use Quick heal's Emergency scan built for DOS.

Good luck!

I had Norton as well, didn't work on the particular virus for some reason. But try Download.com for a free version of AVG7. Or just search for AVG. It cleared my computer. And the program updates itself after it tells you that it may be out of date. I have used nothing but AVG for 2 years now. And it is FREE.

I agree with the AVG suggestion. It's free for home use. go to AVG by Grisoft. it's the best out there in my opinion. Norton I would not wish on my worst enemy. Lavasoft also has a good ad-ware remover, and it is also free for home use. I was surprised how much of that garbage gets through.

try running this standalone application from Avast, go to: http://www.freewarefiles.com/program_9_90_6733.html and see if this avast virus cleaner can eliminate that virus. or you may want to install a great anti-spyware which also detects and removes trojans and worms called Spyware Terminator 1.4 from www.spywareterminator.com, this has a real time protection, guaranteed to be an additional watchdog on your pc system, with regular updates and auto scanning.

good luck, cheers! and thanks for the 10 points you would give me if ever your problem would be resolved.

Could be time to switch virus protection software.

As far as Spyware is concerned, "SpyBot Search & Destroy" gets my vote:

first update your virus deinitions, then open mycomputer.
go to tools, folder options, and uncheck hide protected system files and folders.
turn off system restore, and boot up in safe mode.
run your antivirus program, get rid of anything is finds.
reboot the computer and then turn system restore back on.
Stay away from P2P sites and downloading, that is where you get it.

If all else fails, you can do a system recovery and just erase everything off the pc and put it back to the way it was when you first purchased it.

try AVG it's usually good in handling Spyware(from grisoft). or try a separate spyware remover as it appears that u have a spyware rather than a virus on your system,
