they could be gifts that's true.
however, i use to be a food stamp worker and they would come to the office and try to lie to my face. having their friends sign forms for them.
they can afford to buy beer and get their hair & nails done because tax payers are buying the food!! maybe they should buy less junk and buy condoms and birth control
okay this is me getting down of my soapbox.
granted not EVERYONE on assistant is on it fraudlant. but, don't be confused quite a few are.

You are correct in saying not everyone on welfare does this......and for the ones that do, you may want to consider some of these facts;
Why is it only the "mother" is mentioned? not just by you personally, but by the media and the politicians too. If there is a welfare mother God knows there is a welfare father somewhere.....how did he get off the hook?? If a single woman with several children goes to work a full time job and does not receive child support, she will NOT make enough money to feed, house, clothe, and pay for child care for her children, this is a man's world honey. The welfare system is set up to "trap" people; especially women....ask yourself why would the government spend billions on welfare, when the problem could be virtually remedied by making dead beat dad's pay for their children. As for the designer clothing, don't all kids want to assimilate, fit in? be like the other children in school, there is probably allot of pressure on that mother, not to mention the fact that she is likely raising these children alone, and has guilt issues because of it. Beer and cigarette's can't be purchased with food stamps....and lastly if you had to live in the same conditions some of these women do....would you feel like cracking open a beer every once in a while? If they are abusing the system, they are in fact abusing the very system that is abusing them!

I agree to a point as well. The clothing could be fake designer clothes. I don't think WIC covers beer and cigarettes. But some, unfortunately, do abuse the welfare system.

I used to collect assistance. I was a single mother, working for minimum wage to support my son. I couldn't have done it if it weren't for welfare. My son has grown up in Baby Gap, Old Navy, and other name brands...not because of me though. My sister had a boy who was a year older than my son and he wore my nephew's barely used hand me downs. Plus family members would buy him brand names for gifts on Christmas and Birthdays. He never wore anything less than brand names because he didn't have to. I on the other hand would shop at Wal-Mart for my clothes, Pay-Less for my shoes (had to dress suitable for work so welfare gave me money when I started my new job...but I didn't shop for name brands...far from it). Yeah there are some people who abuse the system, but not everyone does. I was only on welfare till I got on my feet, I was only on it for six months. If you've ever been on welfare you'd know that the amount they give is just barely enough to get by. The only way they could be able to afford all designer clothes is a) they got the clothes BEFORE they went on welfare b) they're lying to the welfare office about their income c) they know where to get the good clothes at from Salvation Army, Goodwill stores, and brand name outlets (outlet stores sell brand names for cheap because they have flaws...like a single stitch could be off, but they still look like the perfect thing...they just don't pass inspection and get sold in the outlet stores...I have three pairs of CK jeans that I only spent 11 bucks on each). And FYI...you can't buy any alcohol or cigarettes with food stamps.

Abusing the system? I don't think so. When the day comes that you become eligible for WIC through disability, layoff or just plain bad choices, I think you'll find that it's rather difficult to abuse the system, and hardly worth a felony charge for a jar of peanut butter, 2 pounds of cheese and a box of Corn Chex each month.
WIC is for lower-income mothers and children. If such a lower-income mom can budget her funds to include her legal habits, does that mean she should not receive the help? Are only children dressed in rags worthy of help? Or if she shops carefully at Salvation Army stores in upscale neighborhoods, do you think she should be penalized?
One solution to your frustration, however, would be to ask the manager of the store where you shop to have those people wait out by the dumpsters for their children's WIC. Then it wouldn't offend you.

Don't be too quick too judge. We can never know what a person's situation is. Remember, designer clothing can be purchased at GOODWILL for pennies.
I had the unfortunate experience of needing public assistance when I got divorced. I had designer clothing, purses, shoes,.. you name it. However, it was all purchased when I was married. Should I have thrown those things away because I needed help? No. Never once did I look like a 'welfare mother'.
I was able to feed and clothe my children and keep a little dignity until I was able to be stable on my own. That isn't a crime.
Just remember, many of us are a couple of paychecks away from needing welfare. You never know what life will bring.

Dont forget foodstamp STEAKS! Kids are a tax write off, but the more you have the higher the overall income can be!
However, foster families can also get all of these benefits plus additional money for taking on wards of the state! Next ime you see this happening, look at the kids!

I feel this is not fair to us woman who are trying to make right for our child but dont have the means to do so right now. I have WIC and that is all i have for my daughter but i did have a friend who had WIC ADC etc and she did nothing for her children...well she is not my friend anymore but it makes the women who do use it for the benefit of their children look bad..NOT FAIR in my book..it is really sad though that ppl who are hard workin ppl that pay taxes..are the ones that are payin for those programs to stay open so we can get that help for OUR CHILDREN...any mother?? who abuses the program should not have become a mother to begin with....

some of those mothers have designer clothes but they are all fake, the kids look like crap and the mom look good, or the mom is in school and really trying to make it out the system. It is hard to determine who is who but easy to pick out the ones who abuse and get away with it
it makes me sick cause taxes go into each and everyone of those food stamp and welfare check recipients pockets, trust me though, they ARE making it tougher to get the free benefits
