You are talking about simplicity.

Most of world do not like to read. A minimum part would like but they think that is so dificult.

Paulo Coelho wrote common and interesting ideas about popular imaginarium using simple language and with linearity within clear style. Many started to read without complications and could get through.

Another strong motivation were the spiritual moment that we were liing at that moment, when Spawn, Charmed, Angel and many other series just come up. People were looking for something else and he started to talk without esoteric approach, but using storyteller approach, bringing some magic ideas to everybody. Today is more common this approcah, but at that period, wasn't;

Considering that he is Brazilian and Editorial market in brazil is terrible, specially during that period and he only could give his first volume in France because one friend translate it, we are talking about something amazing.

Popular doesnt need be dense like Dostoievski. Does not be historical like Eco neither dadaist like Buckowski. Popular must be something good and uinderstendable to great part of our world. Common people with common thoughts not martirized by ideas and some kind of conscience either.

He is popular because he got the right period and wrote right things on a easy way. He is brilliant because achieve something bigger that any other writer on our recent history (He isn't from EUA market and not even from Spain or France). Be simple isn't easy too. You must have the gift.

He reach good results with later books, what many writers like Brown didin't. It isn's just luck, it is gift.

We are talking about new standard bringing culture and passion for reading to majorities;
