I had an IUD. I didn't want any more children and was told I was "too young" to have tubal ligation. Here I am 4 years later with a leftover mess from the IUD. I had MONTHS of constant bleeding (from Oct. to Feb.) with anemia. I wound up having to have a D&C to fix things, which really hasn't fixed everything. I still have intermediate bleeding usually every month.

Also IUDs aren't recommended for multiple sex partners. Its something about being more disease prone as the IUD works by causing irritation (in the case of the Copper T) in the uterus making things more supceptible to STDs. I obediently had mine removed at the end of my marriage at the urging of my gyno which started all my problems. :(

I LOVED the freedom of having the IUD, but IMHO the IUD is not good a good choice for anyone who MIGHT POSSIBLY EVER consider having children. It scares me to know that the IUD may have had lasting effects and I may never be able to have more children. I have a new relationship with someone incredible and would like to maybe have another child with him one day as he doesnt have any, but I'm scared about damage from the IUD.

Weigh the options before you choose. Know the outcome may not be what you wanted, but make the choice which is right for YOU!!! You are all that matters!

P.S. I considered the shot for its convenience but decided against it. I used the patches for a month and the adhesive sucked. Now I'm on plain old birth control pills. I have a little alarm clock I set to remember things. Hope you make the right choice for you!

I chose the IUD. The shot has many side affects from losing your hair to gaining weight. It depends on if you are deciding to have children in the future. One can be inserted for up to 5 years and the other for 10. The 5 year has hormones. It may stop you from having a period. You may spot lightly . It really depends on if you have a monogamous relationship if the OB-GYN will insert it also. You have to have a clean bill of health before they insert anything vaginally. Other types of birth control like the pill can lead to blood clots or pregnancy if not taken correctly. I hope that I gave you some in site on this topic.

The Depo Provera is said to reduce you periods. Well, personally, it doesn't when I got it, i had my period for two and a half months, NON STOP. It sucked! I took it again, and my periods lasted about 2-3 weeks. I've talked to people about it and they have all had the same answer about it. So if these are you're only choices, don't go with Depo Provera. Trust me, it will make you miserable.

Shot. Something about feeling like a cyborg doesn't really interest me.

Neither, I just take the damn pill. That way if I start to feel weird. I can just stop.

Its not hard to take it everyday. You brush your teeth everyday. put the pills next to your toothbrush.....that's what I did. Now, its just like second nature. My pills could be under my bed and I'll remember to take them.
