Depends on the type of a/c unit you bought. Most a/c units, if they don't break down in the first year, will usually stand up very well. Appliance manufacturers say that if problems show up it will usuall be within the first 12 months of use so if your a/c is a large unit tied into the ventilation system of your home, I think you'd be okay. As for the small window installed a/c units, I would search out that manufacturer's quality reports on the internet before buying extended. You'll want to make sure the manufacturer is reputable so check places like the Better Business Bureau.

Some warranties are worth like Large TVs, Car's and Cameras. But some items like DVD players and smaller TVs or even dare I say VCR. Be for the warranty is up the item is already out of date and not worth fixing just because of the warranty. If the air conditioner is something that is a high dollar item and won't go out of style for more then 3 years then yes you should get the warranty if less the 3 years then think about it, but it may not be worth it.

Extended warranties are usually just a rip off. The purchase you made should last without repairs during the warranty period and much longer. The sales person probably makes a nice bonus for selling warranties.

Personally I say no. I used to work at a well known department store that sells appliances. Usually the appliance comes with a limited waranty on parts and sometimes a full waranty. I would look closely at what is offered without purchasing an extended waranty or repair agreement from a store. However...if the item is pricey, and the agreement or waranty is low priced, it may be worth it. Just look into what it already comes with.

If the extended warranty covers lightning damage, it's worth it. Lightning damage is one of the most common problems for window air conditioners in many areas of the U.S.

No, most extended warranties are just another way of increasing the sales profit for stores.

see the reports and ratings on A/C from Consumer's Union. They don't recommend extended warranties for many, many things.
