According to Wikipedia:

A sport consists of a physical and mentally competitive activity carried out with a recreational purpose for competition, for self-enjoyment, to attain excellence, for the development of a skill, or some combination of these. A sport has physical activity, side by side competition, self-motivation and a scoring system. The difference of purpose is what characterises sport, combined with the notion of individual (or team) skill or prowess.

In the words of Jar Jar Binks, "Not really, no, no" for one thing the ball is twice the size of Chicago compared to the bat so it's nearly impossible to miss, second the ball is too heavy and fat and won't travel as far as a baseball and third, It just takes much less skill to play softball than it does to play Tball and that's saying little about it.
Softball is just a ripoff of baseball, created only to make players feel like they don't suck as bad as they really do in baseball.

I play on a weekend softball team and I tell you what, if it was what everyone says it is, just a bunch of guys drinking beer and playing around, my team would rock everyone. I put together a team of guys my age and younger (18-23) that either played baseball their whole life or still do and alot of us are/were all stars, all state, all conference, etc. and we still are just competitive. It still takes alot of mental and physical preperation and ability. Most of all, I ahve learned it still takes alot of teamwork. My guys come home every week with the same bumps, cuts, bruises, and blisters as we all did back in the days of baseball. So you tell me is it a sport?
