I would like to compare WWII Jewish/German children with the Iraqui children of today...I need a book that 5th graders could read.

Have you taught them about Kurdish kids BEFORE this war? Is there some Hitlerish plan to incinerate Iraqi children that we haven't heard of? Keep things in context, and remember that this has been a SHORT war with amazingly few casualties, most of which are inflicted BY IRAQIS!!!!!!
No comparison to Nazi genocide is possible.

While not about children, look for the Librarian of Basra. It is a book about a woman's efforts to save the books from destruction. She hides the books in her home and the homes of others. It will illustrate for your students some of the hidden casualties of war.
