I'm going on holidays there and since it costs me $2.50 for every pound of your, can anyone suggest good fashion shopping streets or shops that are within a reasonable price range?
Also, how much generally do things cost over there. Specifically:
1. Tops
2. Pants/jeans
3. Confectionary
4. Meals out at fast food outlets/restraunts

If you could tell me approx in pounds it would be very much appreciated!

I wouldn't shop in UK, if I were you! It's a hell lot more expensive. But if you had to, you'd be best going to Topshop, Next, River Island, New Look, Bay Trading, etc.

1) prices can vary for tops from £3 (on sale) all the way to around £30 (non-designer). £50+ if designer
2) On average, trousers/jeans cost around £30 (topshop's best for jeans, next is best for trousers - in Oxford circus as you get the big stores with all lengths & sizes)
3) confectionary - Thorntons (it's the only real British one) or Cadbury's (any grocery, e.g. Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys, Morrisons)
4) meals out.. check out:

you also get the usual MacD's, Burger King, KFC, Pizza Hut etc.

You can get affordable clothing from most of the high street chains like Miss Selfridge and Topshop, Oasis or Warehouse. Don't foget some chains aren't actually British (Mango, Kookai)!

Selfridges on Oxford Street has a brilliant confectionary hall.

Traditional British brands are Charbonel et Walker, Rococco and Montezumas, though these have limited outlets so you won't find one on every street corner. Try to find an old-fashioned newsagent as these will have sweets in jars sold by the quarter eg tom thumb drops, pear drops etc.

Whittards the tea and coffee shop also sells confectionary and these shops are quite widespread.

For fast food try Pret-a-Manger for lovely sandwiches, salads, cakes and desserts - they are so good they even have an Egon Ronay star! Reasonably affordable . Pubs are good for sandwiches and ploughmans - do you really want to come to the UK and eat Macdonalds and KFC? What is the point!

Go to TopShop and Mango. The Oxford Circus area is a good start. Prices vary from inexpensive accessories to the one-of-a kind items that TopShop carries from up and coming designers.

You can also get good eats at Chelsea Kitchen or the Stockpot--also check out the Indian restaurants and classic fish n' chips places. Also go to the supermarkets--you can find affordable ready made meals there. Go for fast food as an absolute last resort!
