Cantalope scrapes worked well for us. Pretty much anything with a strong odor.

I'd use peanut butter.....groundhogs are mainly vegetarians. Peanut butter is the very best I've found for mouse traps...it should work for ground hogs, too. It has a strong aroma and will attract the animal from a good distance.

They always get in our garbage, so maybe something along those lines.
Actually that's for woodchuck, but it's the same thing,
