My eleven year old is a great student and I love her very much, but she has her father's personality and does not care about anyone but herself, I have a sister the same way so this may come from both sides of the family. She lives with her dad durring the week and me on the weekends. She has always been self centered (more than most) but this lack of compassion really scares me because I see her father in her. Her dad covers up most of the time but the truth is he is heartless.

Ask her to sponsor a child with you. You know those services where they help entire communities with your monthly donation and then a child sends letters and pictures to you. Also, communicate with her and tell her that she's very lucky to have the things she has, and even food.

Hi there,
the greatest way to teach compassion to a preteen, or any kid for that matter, is to show an example with yourself. Show her that you are compassionate to others, and also importantly, show compassion to her. She might take it for granted but as she grows up she will come to learn that compassion is something a person's gotta learn to show, and that it's not a thing that everyone will show. (ie mean ppl out there)

Is her dad really heartless?? Maybe he's the type to show things through actions instead of words like 'i love you'?? Talk to her dad and discuss what you guys can do about her. And also ask him to consider what his actions are doing to influence her. By and by, it will work. Good luck!

Eleven year old girls usually like animals, especially kittens and pupppies. If she likes animals, have her volunteer to help save some of them in a non-profit. If she sees the horrible things that can happen to these cute things, and also sees that there are people who will want to help them, maybe she can develop compassion for these animals too. Then, it's just a few more steps to developing compassion for humans.

She's a part of you too, you know. Just because you see her dad in her, doesn't mean a part of you is not in there as well. She's your daughter.
