Columbia, Missouri is the best small city in the country. We have the U. of Mo, and 2 other colleges, and we are very culturally advanced, with art galleries, music venues, festivals all year, great night life and the country here is beautiful. The cost of living is low and housing is incredibly affordable. I love experiencing the seasons, not too hot in the summer and just enough snow in the winter to be fun. It doesn't usually get very cold. Go to the website www.gocolumbiamo.com to check us out!!

Texas is a great place to live. It has the most affordable housing and you don't pay a state income tax. There is a lot of wonderful cities to in TX. Austin has a very progressive culture, its a college town with a lot of young people and the climate is great. There is a lot of CA transplants there! San Antonio is a beautiful city with lots to do for a family. It has a lot of diversity and culture. People are very friendly in Texas. Its a large state with so much to offer....Do some research on Texas. I am a native Texan and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else!

If it is just job opportunities you seek, an old foster son says that the market for machinists is booming in Houston.
If it's the weather you seek, Chattanooga, Atlanta and Ashville are pleasant.
If it is a deeper philosophical problem, you take nice with you wherever you go and you can find other nice folks anywhere you look.

I happen to love Reno, NV. It's cooler in the summer with low humidity, warmer in the winter and usually have to visit the snow, in the mountains.

Move to smaller town, that is quiet. Maybe that just what you need. You can move anywhere along on HWY 33 central California and you will find many small towns.
