Before any of you start getting all offended. I am a devout Christian and a U.S. patriot. My family's been in this country since 1675: freeborn Black American property owners.
This is really an historical question. This is not an attack on Catholics or Americans. I am asking you to consider their records. The Roman Catholic church has the inquistions, stake burnings, indugences, and the corruption of cultures world-wide. But, the U.S. gov. virtually exterminated the so-called Indians, dropped the bomb, unnecessarily, twice on Japan. And, has continued to rob, intimidate, poison, and lie, world-wide almost non-stop from the beginning.

Neither. It is the people who do evil deeds under the wrong motivation. Both 'institutions' are essentially good and not evil.

The Roman Catholic Church, due to being in existance longer, and being in the stricter sence more hipocritical.
By the way, dropping the bomb saved countless lives......it may not have been necessary, but it was a blessing if winning the war was the issue.
That bomb dropping, it is popular to think, was moraly wrong. Anyone who thinks that is just following a croud. Read a book!

The U.S. govt. is evil. We continue to wage wars, and have caused much more destruction than the Roman Catholic Church. The Church has, for the most part, cleaned up its act and stands as a force for good in this world. Sure, it has had a long history of abuse, but overall, the U.S. is worse.
The church, to the best of my knowledge, no longer has stake burnings or inquisitions. The U.S. govt., however, continues war, and all that stuff.
Good question. Makes you think.

They both rate right up there equally on the evil scale. But I think the good that our country does around the world makes up for some of our tragic mistakes we have made and continue to make. The Catholic Church however I couldn't say what good they are doing for anyone. I admit bias because I 'm not religious however.

Definitely the Roman Catholic church. I mean, where do you think the US govt got all it's ideas from? RC is old school evil! They knew evil before the US Govt was even a twinkle in the world's eye. But good question, though.

I actually wouldn't categorize either as "evil", per se. I would call it more of an "immorality of adolesence". Both had growing pains in their history and development. From a purely Machivellian viewpoint, both went through periods of history in which they worked to establish themselves as the dominae rex of all other nations (or religions, in the case of the church).
Based on the tennants of both the Catholic faith and US constitution, I wouldn't say the entities themselves were the issue, but the people governing them at the time they had their episodes of poor conduct.

I would have to say the Roman Catholic Church. The US Government sure knows how to brainwash, but the Roman Catholics have got it down to an art form.

The United States is not evil just because evil people are citizens. Nor is the Roman Catholic Church evil because its members have done evil things.

It certainly does not sound as if you are a "devout Christian" Nor a US patriot...Government as well as Catholic Doctrine are run by men, who all fall short. ( as you should well know ) I would guess that it would be fair to say that any organization, group, following, or government would have fault and fall short of "perfection". We are merely human. To group "all Catholics" or "government politicians" and pass judgment on a group as a whole truly shows how narrow minded, judgmental, ignorant, and hypocritical you really are.
