Because you are here NOW. You cannot know until it is over if there is something beyond death. So live as if you KNOW that there is something after this life and do as much as you can to relieve the suffering of your fellow humans. If there is nothing after this life then you will have made things a little better for everyone you ever met. If there IS a life after this one then you will understand what it was all about. Either way you win.

A rational question outwardly But neither birth nor death is in our hands.The law also does not permit one to take his own life!!!!
It is only we humans think about ending life and not enjoy life. Because we do not know what life is, what the world around is, What beautiful things GOD has created to make OUR life as wonderful and enjoyable.Look at birds, animals. They do not seem to entertain thoughts of ending life. They want to live, they want their freedom.They travel long distance in search of food, better climate.It is only we the human beings who feel miserable.
We forget that it is all our own making and we have made the world a night mare to live, making things worse for ordinary person to live, making the world as inhabitable even.
SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST is the theory of NATURE but what was said of a race as such is becoming applicable even within an organic living being.
I would strongly advise you to get a translated copy of BHAGAWAT GITA or to get from any LIBRARY and read it.
Though to start with it may appear to be difficult to understand after reading it once or twice you would be able to appreciate the practical wisdom. You should get a book which contains explanatory notes too.
In a battle field the warriror lays down his arms saying he would not like to take revenge on his enemys who are his own blood relations. Then the chariot driver LORD KRISHNA laughs at his
cold feet and feminine thinking of accepting defeat even before the start of the war and in the end get killed by his enemys who are ofcourse determined to take his pound of flesh with a drop of blood and rule the world.His PEP talks and theory of birth and death, etc sums up the HINDU philosophy and worth reading and at end you would become wiser too and would not only stop asking this question but would advise others too on how to live in this world fighting for your rights and doing your duties.
TILL DEATH LET US CONTRIBUTE OUR MITE TO THIS WORLD TO MAKE IT A HAPPY PLACE FOR LIVING AND SHARING BY ALL BEINGS INCLUDING HUMAN BEINGS AND WHEN DEATH COMES/CALLS US WE WOULD EMBRACE IT TOO WILLINGLY AND HAPPILY LAUGHING ALOUD.
