Science, of course, requires ignorance. If we knew everything, we wouldn't need science. Science is a tool for testing ideas. It helps us to learn things that we don't currently know. We organize our inquiries into areas of study that we think are related based on what we currently know- such as biology or geology or physics. If we knew it all, we probably wouldn't organize and categorize it that way. We'd probably know a unified theory that would unite all the various categories into one. So in a sense the quote is true.
Of course the quote could go beyond that. It could be a dismissal of what we've learned through the use of science. In that case, it's an annoyingly ignorant quote. Science has let us weed out a lot of claims that just didn't fit the facts. We've made a lot of progress through the application of science. Science is based on the fact that we are ignorant and need to figure things out, but it is constantly decreasing the amount of that ignorance.

To me, the quote is describing what most scientists experience which is the usual trial and error. Many scientists failed before a discovery became a legal fact or existence. People think, wonder then experiment without actually knowing the essence of what they are doing.
People during the earlier centuries believe that the Earth is the center of the universe without actually seeing the Earth on space. Everyone still ridicules Charles Darwin's theory of evolution but even in his failures, more scientists still search for more clues.
Science exists because we need to learn and discover something that will improve everything around us but almost every discovery and theory sprouts form a failure to know the truth.

I do not see any problem within the religion and the science. I do not recognize the science as a complete source of analyze and deciding for future but I do not address any other kind of knowledge as strong and reliable as science! We have no choice rather than trusting on our scientific results - which are getting developed and closer to the reality by day.

There is an extreme amount of organization in the name of science. Look at the number of Univeristies, Laboratories, Research Institutes, etc. Its all in the name of finding answers to questions that we don't yet understand. And after all, science wouldn't be science if we knew what we were doing.

I relate it to star trek. They were out to explore and despite their ignorance (lack of knowledge) learned to increase their understanding of the things around them.Look at how the concepts and perceptions of science are constantly changing as new discoveries are being made! It is ignorance that drives us ALL.I am a Christian, but not always so quick to deem any statement as being for or against Christianity. The above statement says nothing about religion.I believe the statement is very matter-of-fact.

Sounds like they are for faith over science, but it's not a very strong quote. I would never connect science with ignorance.

Science is saving my Mother's life, how can that be ignorance? I believe everyone has, or has not, their own beliefs and that is the way things should be. There are reasons, I believe, why we are given things, let it be physical, mental or spiritual, but who am I to know the why of it?

Yes, they don't actually know the formula for fossilization, and the teachers have been teaching a lie for years. If you get a chance check out the soft tissue of a Tyronausus Rex that they found in Alaska. They have been saying 70 million years when it is found that it is not that old! Very interesting!

ignoring things... is being ignorant
so, whoever created that quote is ignoring the benefits of science
science ignores spirituality in the west, in the east spirituality and science depend on each other
