I just did a "anti-virus" scan and when I checked the results this is what I found "c:\WINDOWS\HELP\msoe.chm
This file couldn't be scanned because it contains encrypted files. Please decrypt the file(s) and scan them manually." Can someone help me decrypt this file and scan them manually? Or is this file not important. I have windows 98 2ndE. I am kicking myself right now for not buying a "mac"! Hopefully I posted this in the right category. Thank you for your time!

It will give you a visual and explanation of your problem and how to decrypt.
Its just part of the Windows help file. If you really need it, I can just send it to you since this file will work on both 98 and XP.
Contact me if you really need it, but I dont think its very important unless you use Windows Help often.
If you have the windows 98 CD then you can basically install it back in or try this:
If the folder C:\Windows\Options\Cabs exist in the computer, you can run SFC and select "Extract one file from the installation Disk". Type Windows.chm, click on Start. Extract the file from C:\Windows\Options\Cabs into the C:\Windows\Help folder.

u can ignore the warning (there is a slight chance the files are harmed with any virus).my guess since the file is in \HELP\ its not really an important system file. perhaps some documentation file.

CHM files are Windows "compiled help" files; nothing you should need to scan. Don't worry :)

don't worry in that windows version that is not dangerous, it is only a HELP file "you know, when you open windows help". but buy a mac, they're good :)
