I picture just the other side of what some consider illusion.

A photographer's trick is to include people in a shot of a massive object so that we have a visual reference to compare too. It shows how huge the Redwood tree is, otherwise is just looks like another stump.

"Short" only exists if "Tall" exists to compare to.

So the very existence of failed Dreams, starving kids, broken hearts HAS TO mean that there is also somewhere fulfilled dreams, rescued children, and healed hearts.

But where do you see yourself in all this?

While you are observing some new in persecution, you'll also be observing some new to liberation. There is a constant ebb and flow. Does this give a new hope? Does this feed the frustration?

Realizing that there is always two sides of the coin (despite what the media presents) is one of the first steps to discovering some new things.

For instance, for certain of my friends and family I have tons of money. Yet another set thinks I've done rather poorly financially and are looking to find me in the poor house. Putting the world around us in a category of "wasted" or "failed" may often be according to our own measuring stick. Sometimes even looking at ourselves in a new light means knocking over that measuring rod that usually someone else (family, friends, media) put in the ground to measure us by.

I say, start over and get your new measuring stick!

We can't afford to believe what just anyone says. Anyone can claim to represent what God says.
They often even feel convinced that they accurately do.

I too feel like there is no point to it all sometimes. Then I look at my children and understand it isn't up to me to change the world but to make the difference at home, then through time as my progeny grow, they too will make changes and impact the world around them. This isn't to say you should only have kids to make a difference, but if you can enhance just one person's life, then that person touches another soul, you have started a revolution of the best kind.

I picture the two cities I grew up in, Marin City and Oakland. There is so much wasted potential, kids who can't afford to go to school and spend their entire lives being angry and being told they are worthless.
