No, they shouldn't. If you get hit in the stomach hard enough you could have a miscarriage.

It would injure the baby if the mother fell down or was hit hard. If she's just running, the baby would be okay. But how likely is it for someone who is playing football to NOT be hit by anyone?

Yes, generally they can, if it's not the 1st or 2nd month of the pregrnancy, and if she hadn't had any complications during previous pregnancies...It's alright! It might be very individual... And a doctor should be asked to give some adivce.
