Is there a way to live self sustained in america on your land, money free?

You know, where you have a small farm, and everything you need, like the Amish, but don't have to be some part of an antiquated culture to not have to pay property tax? How can the government charge property tax to someone who makes no money???

I believe in free America, but this bothers me because I was thinking of moving to China to learn from their culture, and when I get back I want to be able to do this sort of thing.

Great question! I own my ranch..lock stock and barrel, and yes I pay taxes. I pay taxes to the Government, The Crown, King George, who ever pockets it. We grow vegetables, have chickens and eggs, beef, home owners ins., car ins., income tax,electric bill and telephone bill. Unfortunatley there is no way to live with out supporting the fat cats in politics. We elect them (cough, cough) pay into porkbelly spending and buy what they and the media sell us, and go on day after day, like the sheep we raise. It is in fact a privlage to own land in America ....not a right. We must like to be governed we do it so well. One day maybe we can govern ourselves.I don't know if there has ever been a self governing civilization. There's always the mountains, be a mountain man or hermit, if that works for you. They are out there.

When America was founded, no one paid rent to anyone. Some how it crept into the culture and evolved from a convienience to a necessity over generations. Same thing with taxes. If you are free to pick a piece of land anywhere, I believe that you will find a few spots in a few states that are not part of a town, but any town with services (water, roads, garbage collection, schools) charges its residents a tax.
The reason is that the rules have been made that favor people in power for over two-hundred years. If everything was done with our freedoms in mind, of course we would have no personal taxes...!!
PS It's worse in other parts of the world. In England, even if you own the house, you sometimes have to pay rent on the land!

There is really no correlation between making money and paying property tax. We Americans pay income tax, but only if we have income. The property tax is assessed and collected as part of the government's "Eminent Domain" policy. The bottom line is: if you want to own property in this country, you must pay property tax. Eminent Domain also involves the policy that if the government wants to buy your property from you (to build a highway, etc.), they can and will pay you what they consider to be fair market value, and you must sell it. The idea is that this country belongs to government, and we are just allowed to live on it. This policy is as old as the Constitution.

You could be self-sustaining, raising your own food and burning firewood for heat, but could you live without electricity, and other public utilities? How would you earn money to buy clothes, what about medical expenses, and the other items we usually need that are not "homegrown":
Toilet paper
Shoes
Fuel for the tractor needed to farm

Yours is a dream many of us would like to live. But I, for one, am not willing to give up my worldly life.......maybe you are. I wish you the best.

You can always squat on someone elses property. Otherwise I don't think you can get away with not paying taxes on property you own.

Taxes increase your freedom, not decrease it. Your ability to pay property tax means that you have a government, which allows you to better facilitate your freedom.
