clean up first then do a defrag. But don't defrag to much or you can actually do the what your trying to fix by damaging and slowing down your computer. If you do a lot of deleting and installing do it about once every 3 to 4 months but nothing more then that.

Actually, you should do the disk cleanup first. Cleanup deletes all of the unneeded files left over from your computer doing things like installing software, downloading files, and just visiting web pages. Defrag. organizes all of the files on your hard drive so that they can be read more quickly, which boosts speed.

You should do disk cleanup first, so you get rid of the files you don't need first and then organize all the ones you do need.

Otherwise you have just organized everything and then taken out little chunks of that data. Kinda like building a wall with Legos and then taking a few out at random spots.

You should run both about once a month.

YOU MUST DO A CLEANUP FIRST. (It just makes sense)

Cleanup is going to remove unwanted and unused files from the computer, leaving additional empty sectors on the hard drive.

Run the defrag after to resort the files on the disk. When the hard drive writes a file it can put it in many different sectors of available disk space. Running defrag puts the files into a good clean order, with commonly accessed files in areas where that can be accessed faster.

Disc cleanup is a quick and easy way to delete temp files and other junk you don't need.

Since it involves removing files, it makes sense to do that first. Empty your recycle bin afterwards, then defrag. It might not matter that much, but it's the right order...

Clean up first so the defrag will run after the cleanup. Otherwise you will have empty spaces between your files.

Doesn't matter which one you do first...just do both! Disc cleanup just removes all of the temporary files that are left behind from visited websites and installations. There is ALOT more stuff that needs to be removed manually in your local settings hidden folder..make sure you dump that as well. This is where all of the websites you visited, all of the pictures you looked at and all of the videos you looked at are stored...NOTHING will remove these..only you...there is no cache clearing, history clearing...NADA!! This is a 100% manual removal! Good Luck!!

Disc cleanup 1st Then Defrag.Defrag is going to take awhile,so start it and walk away. Set your computer so it won't hibernate or the screen saver to come on because it will slow it down

Disc cleanup helps clear up space on the hard drive, and the defragmenter repairs it. It doesn't really what matter you do them in, and you should run them about once or twice a month.

Don't matter I do Clean up first takes less time then do defrag, after I turn off my screensaver. Once the defrag is going I turn off my monitor and go to bed, in the morning I'll reset my screensaver.
