I am quite content with being fairly well to do in the United States. Though not wealthy compared to some, my countrymen (and countrywomen) live better than the emperors and kings thousands of years ago. We also live almost shamefully well compared to others on this planet. Having sufficient food and shelter for everyone on the planet is an attainable goal as is adequate health care.
I am sad only when my expectations are unrealistic.

Well they say money can't buy you happiness but research shows mostly poor people lack opportunities. I think at least if you were rich you can cheer yourself up with a flash holiday a facial or some retail therapy....seriously most poor people end up miserable when they can not pay the bills, can not afford to give their kids what they want, man they even have to wait on huge lists for crucial surgery deemed selective because they might not die tomorrow. In a family unit are always fighting about money..and they lack opportunity for experiences wealthy people take for-granted..so for somebody who has been poor and rich and in-between happiness comes in rich and poor. Happiness is a state of mind. But money talks.

That's a tricky question because it's so hard to be poor and happy and it's also hard to be rich and sad. I haven't seen too many homeless people that were grinning from ear to ear unless they were senile.
If they were both possible I would choose poor and happy. I can handle not having much as long as I'm happy with what I've got.

I would rather be poor and happy because if you are sad you might commit suicide even with your wealth and being poor but happy gives a better chance to change the "poor" to "rich" Money can't buy happiness but proverty brings humility.

Money can't buy it...so if you ain't got it but ya got money and you are still miserable...sad, sad really sad situation..happens all the time..look at all the famous peeps that have offed themselves in spite of riches and fame and all that. So for me...Like I've ever even known anything else..I'd rather be poor and happy...roof, food, family and Jesus...that's all anybuddy really needs in this life. Thank God air and water are still sorta free..if you can't afford those then you are really broke...like those tribal people in the Sudan. Thats poor. We don't even know what poor is..not really. So yeah..anyone not there should be freakin overjoyed. Love in Christ, ~J~

I am poor and happy but not so poor that my kids have to miss out on anything at all. If they want something, I would go without just to make them happy.

poor and happy - for the same reason I quit a very high salaried corporate job that I hated and now make squat but enjoy it. I'd rather "live poor" than "die rich" and if you aren't happy, you're not living.

I wouldn't want to be poor, but happy. I wouldn't know what it is like to be rich, only modestly comfortable. It all comes at a cost. Donald Trump, & Bill Gates don't look at all too sad.
