My son, age 3.4 does not want to sleep. He will not take naps during the day, and will stay awake until 11 p.m. Then he wakes up at 3 a.m. and plays with telephone cords and babbles to himself. Is this a common trait in Autistic children? Yes we run him all day, park, beach, bike, mall, etc. and he just doesn't tire out. When we try to force him to sleep, he will scream and roll over on his back and play with paper, string, toy for hours and hours. If we take that away, then he screams forever...

Here's a wonderful website with some great ideas to try to get your Autistic child into a bedtime routine that he won't resist so strongly:

http://groups.msn.com/TheAutismHomePage/sleep.msnw

http://www.nas.org.uk/nas/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=367&a=3376

Be patient, follow the set routine you establish after reading the above sites and talking with the family about what will work for you as a team, and stay strong!

Autistic children can be quite difficult to deal with some times it seem to get easier and sometimes things will get worse. yes however they tend to have a lot of energy and scream alot. i my self have Autism and i am 22 years old. when i was that age my mother said i would throw a fit at bed time. i would reccomend this site for answers www.polyxo.com

I don't have autistic kids and I don't mean to sound dumb but.........I watched this show where the parents sang to autistic children about what they were supposed to be doing, such as going to bed. Just use a simple tune (ex:row row your boat) and sing to him about it being bed time and he needs to go to sleep. It was on Primetime or Dateline and the parents who did this said it was like a miracle for them.
Hope that helps!!!!!! Good luck!!!!!!

Well, why don't you try reading a story book (fairy tales/mthys/legends, etc) to him. usually children will fall asleep when you read them something like that. And singing is really a good idea too.

hope that'll help you. good luck!
