It's not the first time this sort of thing has happened.
At the 1982 WC in Spain, Kuwait was playing France, and there was an attacking move against them. A player attempted a tackle, and there was a whistle from the sideline. All the Kuwaiti defenders stopped... but the attacker shot the ball into the back of the net !
And the goal was awarded...
But this is where the story gets interesting. One of the spectators at that game was the brother of the ruler of Kuwait, and he came down out of the stands and onto the pitch with all his body-guards and security detail. He marched out onto the pitch berated the referee, and, though no-one knows 100% what was said... probably threatened him.
In any case, the goal was waved off and the game restarted by the very frightened referee... the ref survived... but not his career... he was stripped of his accreditation.
And the result was France, 4 -1.

It's really sad when fans resort to these tactics. Pathetic really. They think they are funny and most of us have news for them, they are not the least bit funny. It also happened to an Aussie in the match re Brazil. But SuddenDeath is right, the rules would have to be changed to accommodate all players this has happened to and it is possible to do it. So fans wake up to yourself and leave the whistles at home and the childish behaviour that comes with them. How would they like it if the team effected was their own. They would be the first ones on here whinging and screaming foul. The referee has the whistle. People if caught should be escorted from the game .

well we have a set of rules for all to abide by... Yes everyone has an excuse why they did or did not do anything at any time. The only thing that is constant and object - the same for all is the rule.
sorry on some it hard. But thats life. How many referee errors have there been do we go back and replay all games reverse the results??????? where does it start and finish???? Lets go on with the game.

I dont think so mate. There's no way taht he could play for any of the teams left. I think he would have to gain citizenship first which takes a few years...That's a really silly question here mate..

No.Because rules are rules.
Zidane also misses the the next match with no fault of his.
If FIFA does this to 1 player, then they have to do this to everyone

I agree with SuddenDeath...if the refs word is law, it has to be so in ALL cases...no exceptions unless you want to institute instant repaly like American football!
