Is it normal in your country for ladies to use umbrellas on sunny days to shield themselves from the sun?

Some women in the USA use umbrellas for shade, especially in the sunny south western part of the country (Arizona, California, New Mexico). Many older women who have had too much sun exposure and are at risk for skin cancer will use umbrellas for shade.

Dermatologists in the USA encourage Americans to cover up more than they do, and I'm sure would love to see more Americans use them for shade!

Well, I live in the USA, and we women do not use umbrellas to shield ourselves from the sun. In fact, most women here welcome the sun and donne bathing suits and lay out in the sun. Once we get too hot, we do sit under beach umbrellas, but that is usually to eat, or if the woman is starting to sunburn and there is no shade. But to answer you, no, you don't see women walking around carrying umbrellas, as was the common practice in the 18-and early 1900's, when getting a tan was a major no-no.

I'm not sure how normal it is, but I live in Southern Callifornia, and see that often, around my neighborhood.
I don't think it's all umbrellas, but a parasol, and if you don't know spanish, means, Para = for and Sol = sun. For the sun.
Makes sense these days, and they don't need to cover up with sun screen.

nope. that'd be really strange if a woman were to walk down the street with an umbrella when its not raining... cuz its really rainy in my part of the US so whatever sun there is, ppl just enjoy it (without umbrellas)

Not sure what the rest of my state does when the sun hits, may duck and cover....I on the other hand wear what's called sunglasses. It's a wonderful invention that goes on your face and keeps the sun out of your eyes. WOW!!

which country ,america .yes tthey do what they want most of the time as long as there husband says yes.but most of the time its a braves baseball cap to shade there head.
