I have a 2 year old bearded dragon who will not eat anything and hardly moves around his cage. Last week I added some new sand too his cage and it was the same color as he had so i don't think it was the sand. But I also used some windex on the glass. I am not sure what is wrong with him. Please help my son and I love this dragon and do not have a lot of money to take him to the vet.

Don't ever clean your tank with a cleaning agent. They make tank wipes you can by at the petstore or use vinegar diluted with water. Your dragon needs live crickets & meal worms & dark greens to have proper nutrition. My dragon is 7 years old & is absolutely beautiful. You can try a pinky mouse, but I think thats mean but it may perk your dragon up. Also try baby food, mango, peach, banana. I don't use sand, I realise it looks pretty but...my girl does best on cracked walnut bedding.
I sincerely hope your dragon is gets well soon.

Was the Windex on the inside? Unless you sprayed it directly on the little dragon, he should be ok.
How long has it been since he ate? Reptiles can go a little while between meals. A week or two at the latest. Is he sleeping?
How old is he, and what are you feeding him? Young dragons, say, a few months old, can become constipated by large crickets.
You will have to go to a vet for this. Baby dragons should eat wax worms, earth worms and fruit and vegetables.
Do you have a basking light for him? It's a special light that gives off heat he needs, as well as ultraviolet light. If not, get one today-go now! Any pet store will carry one, ask the employees there.
Bearded Dragons are cold blooded, meaning they can't regulate their own temperature like people do. They need heat to come from an outside sourse. Ideally the sun, because it also gives them nutrients they need for healthy bones and digestion. If they get too cold they become less active and the digetion slows, which is bad for the dragon. Put any thermometer into his cage and check the temperature. It should be between 75-90 degrees farenheit. (sorry, I don't know celsius or kelvin). If you think his problem may be that he is too cold, put a few towels down on a heating pad turned on low and put him on top. Don't heat him too rapidly, he will go into shock and die. Watch him close don't leave him alone until he looks a little better.
I hope this helps, Good luck to you and your little dragon!!
While you are at the petstore get a book about bearded dragons if you don't already have one.

i have a bearded dragon and have had it for many years, so i know this one. they carry a very mild versio of it, which means it cant kill you but you should wash your hand with soap and water after touching him or you will get sick. Also, here are some other tips- You should give your bearded dragon a bath daily (they love it! and it helps hydrate them and keeps their dry skin hydrated. You should give him fruits, especially rasperries! They love it! They come from the desert, so they love to be outdoors! Build or buy an enclosed cage (not a tank) about 3 feet by 3 feet, or more if you can afford it. It must be a cage so the sun can come through, and it it's glass it'll burn him. When it gets dark take him in the house to a tank with sand and a heat lamp, he'll sleep there, and take him back it in the morning. Make sure only to do this on warm days, though. They normally between 20-40 dollars, maybe more, depending on where they came from. If you have a big house, let them run around in an enclosed room for several hours where they ca get sun, (make sure no dogs or anything else are around)Beared dragons dont bite (they dont have teeth), and make fabulous pets, so give them lots of love and they'll have the perfect home!

dont think so - although i try to wash any residue with water, the stuff is not highly poisonous so the amount applied would not intoxicate the animal

is not it constipated - that is the new sand - wasnt it smaller grit that the previous sand? too fine grains can cause fatal cases of constipation in some animals but i am not sure about beardies, i never had them

mealworms can cause constipation too - i recommend some veggies as a mild cure of constipation

is the coloration and overall shape ok or not - is the animal thin, with sulken eyes, dull skin - that would be important sign. if i were u i would try lukewarm bath to cheer it up if color and shape ok and the vet if not. Maybe there is some animal shelter or charity that has experience with reptiles and u can get advice for free?? if the animal looks not its usual self, try taking photos and posting somewhere where you would get advice - i believe there are websites just for beardies and they will be happy to help

if you made a substantial overhaul of the cage it may just go on hungerstrike, but the loss of activity is somehow alarming - check other changes like was there some change in weather or overall conditions in the room - colder, warmer, new people or pets arround, new food.

Too much optimism regarding sick animals has killed many of them, but maybe it just got little colder and the animal is naturally slowed down and no need to worry - if you turn the eating up a little it may become more active.

first of all check the crapping - since u cleaned the cage u must be able to see if there is some poo at all since the cleaning.

dont forget to squirt some water in mouth, maybe with little honey or sugar to start it up? every day

anyway forget about vets that dont handle reptiles, that would be truly waste of money

above all, dont overdo the vitamins boosting cure - fat-soluble vitamins (mainly D, but also E, A) can be overdosed JUST TOO EASILY. Plenty of calcium and some of B complex is ok

GOOD LUCK

if it was that newer windex with ammonia it could have made him sick from the vapors that stuff is pretty strong. Don't use cleaners on the inside. Try not to use on the outside also. Don't know what you could do or a vet could do either. The new sand I don't think would have done anything. I don't know the symptoms maybe a change in enviorment freaked him out a bit.

Bearded Dragons are basking animals they need UVB lights or they'll develop a bone disease called metabolic bone disease that would cause him to become lethargic. It'll also cause tremors, swollen limbs & soft jaw bone. UVB lights take the place of the effects of the sun, you can put him in the sun but not through a closed window, the glass will block the rays he needs from the sun. They also need a basking area that gets from 95-110 Farenhit & calcium added to their diet. You can get the lights from most pet stores, the lights need to be changed out every 6 months to be affective, even if the light is still bright. This disease takes awhile before is shows signs but if you you get right lights, vitamens and temp for him you can start reversing the affects of the diease. This is the most common reason for what your bearie is doing. Best of luck to you!

my bearded dragon does this all the time!
when ever that happens, i just take him outside and let him walk around in the yard to get some sunshine and eat some grass.
but if you fed him/her any iceberg lettuce then maby it is sick.
you should feed him only green or red leaf lettuce and chopped carrots and the crickets or meal worms.
Windex wont hurt him i use it all the time.
and as far as the sand goes, you should use alfalfa pellets, like the ones that bunnies eat. those are easier to clean and they almost eliminate all nasty dragon odors. plus if he eats a little bit it is less harmful than sand. sand shouldn't be used at all in his cage.

Don't worry,
once they hit they're third year they slow way down.
you don't need to see a vet.

i herd once that oranges can make them sick ...... Make sure he gets lots of letuce and crickets. It could be the cage if you use lots of soap make sure you wipe ALL of it off, to much soap is bad.and the sand ... Vitasand is good becuase if they eat it it wont hurt them , too much sand is bad for theyre systems.... It could also be the light.. It needs Lots of light AT LEAST 8 hour of light , he can get VERY sick if he doesnt get light. his bones will get to weak. ALSO try putting calcium powder on his bugs and lettuce , like Jurassi Cal . If he gets even more sick , try calling a vet they normally wont charge you for just talking , Or look online some more.

I dont think you poisoned the dragon, most reptiles don't care about windex. try feeding him some bearded dragon pellats and supplements. hold him and stroke his belly. spray him with luke-warm water in a gentle spray bottle. make sure he is always clean and wash your hands before and after holding or touching him.
