The red sox are so good because they are more than just a baseball team. They are a cultural phenomenon. This is because they have the best and broadest fan base in all of baseball, or possibly in all of American sports. Even when the Red Sox hadn't won a world series in 86 years or so, they still sold out their stadium on a regular basis. The Florida Marlins won the world series three years ago...know how many fans showed up to one of their home games last week? 9,000. That's pathetic fan support. When the red sox played Atlanta last week, same thing. The Red sox sell out stadiums for their opponents. Players, like Johnny Damon and Pedro Martinez who hold out for a few extra million are missing something really big here...Red Sox Culture. Anywhere they go, fans love to watch them, and it's hard to tell who gets the biggest cheer when they are visitors, them or the home team. Boston fans are why the Red Sox are so good.

before i answer this question i want to adress somethingn runnin rebel are you crazy, did i actually see correctly you wrote little american league. Lol the little american league has the last two world champs, not to even mention the yankees who once they get matsui, and sheffield back will be a contender. Your little jab at the american league by throwing the cardinals, and the mets at us is laughable. First of all, last time i checked, the cardinals havent been doing crap since pujols got injured, and the mets before this year were nothing but a cheap thrill.
Anyway getting back to the question, in all honesty the red sox are not entirely that good. With out ramirez, or ortiz, they would be nothing. Even if only one of them left the team, they would be nothing. They have schilling, coco crisp is playing well, but without one of those big bats in the line up the red soxz would be second rate. Its kind of sad when you think how many injuries the yankees have, and how there big players are not producing runs for the starting pitchers, that the yankees are only 2 games behind boston. Look for the yankees to make a run soon, giambi is hot, and so is cano, and bernie williams, look for the veterans to get the yankees out of the slump to make a run soon.

They are not as good as The Tigers.
If they were in the same division, The Tigers would have a 8 game lead over them.
The question should be;
why are The Tigers so good:
and the correct answer is because they are.
