I've been to 20 states and Washington, DC, (TX, AR, LA, TN, KY, WV, VA, IN, IL, OH, MO, KS, MS, AL, GA, FL, MD, NJ, PA, NY) so I'll admit I'm not well traveled. I've heard good and bad things about every place--and truth is, that rule is true. Having said that, in my experience...
Best:
Texas, Alabama, Mississippi
Worst:
Kentucky, Ohio, Florida
My goal is to visit all 50 states to develop a more mature and intelligent opinion of the states. However, my parents have been to every state east of the continental divide, and my dad has been to a few additional ones west of it, but their list is the same as mine in some ways, and different in others. Oh yeah, I live in Kentucky.

Louisville is a beautiful city, and Kentucky is a beautiful state. However, I lived in Louisville for 9 months and disliked it. People there are meaner than they are in New York, Dallas, Orlando, larger cities like that. Downstate Kentucky is a little better, but not much. It's one of the most scenic states I've ever been to, but they brag way too much about its so-called hospitality. I guess there are worst places, though...

I've been to IN (Before moving here), FL (after moving to IN), VA, GA, TN, KY, IL, OH, MI. Lived in FL and for the last thirteen years live in IN.
I'd much rather be living in Florida. Indiana sux except for Indianapolis.
As far as the places I've visited, of course love Florida and also like Kentucky. Tennessee and Georgia were alright. I actually went to Michigan when I was only 8 months old so I don't remember it. The parts of Illinois I've been to were small country towns (the college I went to is right next to the Illinois border). Never been to Chicago.
I have a long list of places I still want to visit.

Wow! I feel so naive! I have only been to eight states: West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
I've lived in West Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
West Virginia is my home state; born here, and for the most part, grew up here. It wouldn't be so bad if it were cleaned up, but right now there is litter everywhere! I have trouble even taking decent pictures around my hometown because there's trash in every shot. And the roads are bad. Sometimes when traveling over the back roads, we have to drive in the left lane when there is no oncoming traffic to avoid possible damage to our tires from all the potholes. And there is absolutely nothing to do here!
I went just over the Ohio border once. Yeah, lived in WV most of my life and never been to Cleveland, ever! The one time I was in Ohio, I stopped in a convenience store, and the people were really cold. I mean cold like never so much as look in my direction the whole time I was in there.
I've been through Virginia several times while traveling North and South. I have to say, there is no litter on the highway in Virginia. I think it is the most beautiful state I have ever seen.
I'm not that familiar with Kentucky. I've only been there a couple of times on quick trips.
I mostly just went through North Carolina to get from north to south and vice versa. But they have great malls in Monroe, Charlotte, and...and... I can't remember the name of the other place, right next to Charlotte. Every great rock band plays in Charlotte. Matthews! That's the other place!
South Carolina...Bright, hot, and where the citizens panic at the sight of snow flurries. And sandy.
Georgia, mostly driving through the coastal area at night.
Florida: Pass out in 100+ degree weather. Great theme parks. I love the tropical feel, and all the foreign cultures visiting the theme parks. Weather: hot, hot, hot, hot.

I've lived in Tennessee, Indiana, Ohio, Alabama and Georgia and been to MI, IL, WI, MO, AK, LA, MS, FL, NC, SC, VA, DC, MD, PA, and NY. I now live in Georgia and can't wait to get back to the best place in the USA to live. ALABAMA hands down.
Indiana was a nice place to live and about the only northern state I would care to live in. Ohio was the worst due to taxes and most every thing else. Georgia is nice but far too crowded and so much traffic and Tennessee is nice but I still think Alabama has everything from scenic beauty, easy to get around, fishing, sports, great weather and not very expensive to live. I was born and lived in Tennessee for most of my life but as the song says .. My home's in Alabama no matter where I lay my head.

I have lived in Washington state, Oregon, California for twenty years, Colorado, Idaho, Oklahoma and now am living in Wyoming. I have been to every state west of the Mississippi except North Dakota, several others east of the river, and Alaska. 29 states in all.
I came to Wyoming last, and while I'd still like to experience the others, I have found the place where I want to stay, and will never call another state my home.
So my vote for best states are Wyoming, Oklahoma and Idaho. The worst in my book are California, Florida and Arkansas.

I have lived in VA, MD, KY, FL, TN, HI
didn't like MD, or at least hagerstown and frederick
ppl there are full of themselves and idiots. really it seems that most of the state is that way. baltimore is all right though.
i like VA the most. i live in KY (second time, first time was in a different place at a different time) now, in louisville. i don't think the ppl are mean but, a little bumpkin yes. not as bad as hagerstown and at least the sky here isn't always grey. in MD as soon as it hits winter, its grey skies all the time. at least for the 3 1/2 years i lived there. (spent 1 in frederick.)

I've lived in KS my whole life. I've been to MO, MN, VA, SC,FL,CO,WY, TX. Of all those I'd love to live in Virginia, the Roanoke area. I love visiting Wyoming in the mountains, I go backpack camping once a year in the Medicine Bow area. The nicest place to travel through I'd say is Tennessee, they keep their highways nice and lots of scenery, and nice folks as well! As for living in Kansas, I've lived in alot of different places within this state. Northeastern KS is great, college towns, Kansas City, and actual topography. But now I live in western KS and it is not fun at all, if you hate wind and like elevation change, steer clear of here!

I consider myself to be relatively well traveled (in the US, I mean). I have done 10 thousand miles in road trips and have been to 35 states. I have lived in Colorado, South Dakota, Virginia, and now Wyoming. I don't really have any favorites, every state is both beautiful and flawed. Wyoming has the worst wind in the country, and yet the sky is beautiful . . . either one can take your breath away. Virginia is packed with tourists, but it has so much history. Colorado . . . well, it's Colorado. Everyone loves Colorado.
South Dakota, on the other hand, has little to no redeeming qualities (in my eyes). I long to live in Alaska, or Vermont, or New Hampshire . . . or Maine.

I have only lived in Missouri. I have been to Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Ohio, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Florida, and Mississippi. I like living in Missouri since I really dont have anything else to compare it to. My favorite states that I have visited are Colorado, Tennessee and Florida. I did not like Ohio, New Mexico or Texas. I would love to visit California, Hawaii, Alaska, New York, and Maine.
