Because prejudice is learned from a very young age and it's very hard to break the cycle.

I agree with you too- but it extends beyond just black and white people. It extends to all different cultures and subtle differences within each race. For example, people of Arab heritage get treated poorly in the US. Also, from personal experience, I have light blond hair (it's my natural color) and people tend to treat me as a dumb person- that's not fair. They don't even know me, how can they prejudge me like that? I think that the US is too caught up in appearance. If we could focus less on the externals, we would be a better country.

Because ignorance lives on! The blacks and whites that have no problems with each other keep getting pulled back into the race issue by the ones who are racist! The good have to suffer from the works of the bad! Plus, the way our society is set-up in certain ways it promotes racism. Through segregation throughout our cultures, from hate groups,to internet sites promoting racial superiority and the degradation of other cultures, etc. I don't know if we will ever get pass it because we plant new seeds of racism in each new generation.

Because we have developed a preoccupation with race.
By all sides.
It'll be a long time before the USA become a country where race is not on our minds on a constant basis. In the meantime, we must learn to embrace our many cultures.

Because most people don't look at other people through the eyes of Jesus, that's why.
Galatians 3:27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Colossians 3:11 Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all.
I attend the most integrated church in the United States and if anyone is prejudiced they keep it a very well hidden secret. http://www.alcf.net

That is a question I keep asking myself. We are in america. We are all americans. We should just treat each other with respect no matter what race. If your a nice person, it shouldn't matter what you look like.
