I do not believe it is only ignorance that we do this with. Our need to magnify the shortcomings in others is from the fear of our own inability to live up to the standards we actually set for others. If we were held to these standards, we would fail. I believe that in order to judge others fairly, we should turn that judgment on ourselves. Jesus said it best, "Those without sin, cast the first stone." I believe this is the true cause of society's inability to accept accountability today.

It is easy to criticize that which we do not understand. We give excuses for the ignorance in ourselves. Hence, we think we understand our ignorance and, seemingly, we can justify it. To us, it's not ignorance; rather, it is simply "the right way to be." This is not the case when seeing it in others.

We try as humans to believe that we are superior to others. Thus giving us the illusion that we have a plainer reason to exist on this planet. We find faults with others to put our selves in the spotlight as superior humans.
Hope this helps,

In others we see only behavior. In ourselves, we're blinded by the past, insecurities, and fears. These are the things we use to rationalize our behavior.

It is less threatening to see the fault in others than to see it in ourselves.
If we find fault in ourselves, and we are honest, we will be driven to change what we find.

You can't know what you don't know.
But hopefully people can keep an open mind and know that no one knows everything.
