Stupid stereotypes is the reason.

I don't really use public forms of transportation, but my guess would be insecurity. Why do people cheat and abuse their significant other? Usually, insecurity or lack of morale. I've grown up my whole life around people all different races and always loved everyone, its really hard for me to see color as a barrier. I babysit several different children of diverse racial backgrounds. Some are little brats and some are heavenly, just kids, not colored or white kids.
I'm a Caucasian by the way, which means I'm like 1/1000 of everything. You know, Dutch, Irish, Italian, Scottish, French, blah blah etc.

I've never noticed this happening, but then again I'm not a racially prejeduce person. I'm sure that it happens though.

My guess would be that those people who refuse to sit next to black people are just stupid and racially prejudce. I wish that people would stop looking at skin color (and other racial features) and start looking at what is under the skin....we all bleed red.

Prejeduce is something that you learn, from parents and peers. It is a horrible fact, but its true.

I just think that people are people...regardless of their skin color or other racial features (strong face - American Indians, eyes - Chineese, Japan, Vietnam and the others).

This was a very good question...I'm sure you will get a lot of answers.

Don't know. But I'm from Canada. Actually here I usually cross the street at night to walk near Black people because I trust them more than whites, for some reason. But I rarely see a Black person on the train, etc..

Probably for the same reason that some black people avoid sitting next to white people. Or some old people avoid sitting next to young people. Or some executives avoid sitting next to bikers. Or...or...or... Most people are more comfortable with people of their own racial, social or ethnic group. Aren't you?

Because they are scared. I would like to think most white people are judging by the appearance (dress, accessories) not the skin color. I will not sit next to just anyone, but I assure you I would not be any more comfortable sitting next to a skinhead than a gangbanger. If you have had the experience of white people shunning you just because of your skin color & NO OTHER reason, then shame on them. There's no excuse.

Fear of the unknown. Especially young black kids generally are very rude and aggressive. It is better to avoid giving these morons a reason to be rude to you.

Unfortunately it is their upbringing and the environment they live in that makes them feel unwanted and disliked and thus always ready to attack anyone who comes near them.
These same kids grow up to be aggressive adults.

If we are talking about night time on the subway in NY, and I choose not to go anywhere near black teens with hooded sweatshirts on, that is called common sense and street smarts.

Get real liberals. In some places, if you don't profile and use your head, you don't survive.

Well, on the bus I have to take here, I wouldn't want to sit next to anyone, white or black.

It just so happens that most of them are low-class blacks who smell of alcohol and cigars.

It sounds like you're implying that only white people can be bigoted or racist. If true, that's a pretty ignorant assumption. I've seen white, black and yellow people act that way.
