I'm not really sure of the actual question you have......but I am an atheist, and I for one, do not agree with the teaching of God or anything, prayer, in public schools. If I wanted my child to learn such things, I would send him to a private religious based schoo. I believe the mentioning of God or anything of that sort in the public school forum is disrespectful to the others who do not want such things taught to their children. We are not allowed to teach or talk about atheism, why should it be o.k for my child to be taught or forced to acknowledge the existance of God. We all have our own opinions, and we are all entitled to our own opinions. I do not think we as individuals have the right to force our own personal beliefs on anyone.
I have no problem researching or learing about other cultures. It is totally fascinating to me. Both in religious differences, worship differences and just living in general. There is a big difference between the teaching of Christianity in school versus the teaching of other cultures. It would also depend on how Christianity is taught. Is it being taught as a part of American history, or is it being "preached"? When we are learning about other cultures, we are just learing about history and other areas around the globe and what their personal lives and beliefs entail. We are not taught that one is more right than the other. I believe that for any religious discussion, rather it be about American Christianity or other religions, it should be a nuetral discussion and no religion should be put above another. No one has a right to say whose right or wrong. We are all just human beings living on earth together, raised in different ways and cultures.

They don't EVER attempt to teach any other religion in public schools other than Christianity, so I don't know what you are griping about.
But, in my opinion, offering a voluntary course on all major religions in public schools would be a good way to learn. I went to a LIBERAL private school and I took a course on Islam and a course on Genesis. They were very interesting and it was neat to compare the two religions.

Learning culture and learning religion are two different things.
My students learn how to speak the Spanish language daily, but I don't teach them about Christianity, Judaism, Islam, etc. while also teaching them the language.
I do that out of respect for them.
I'll allow them to explore religion on their own.
Teachers can be quite powerful. You wouldn't want an immoral person teaching children about God.

Normal white people? You sound like a Nazi. History of religion (all religions) should be taught in school then people would understand how the world's violence is started.

OK I really wish you hadn't dragged race into the issue. I am very concerned that God seems to be a dirty word in Western culture, but race has nothing to do with it. I am proud of my Euro heritage, but you know black & Latinos are very often devout Christians and if you are a Christian, you need to learn to respect all races.

There are so many different religions and you can't force anyone to learn the religion you believe in.

In public schools ALL religions should be thought about, but not emphasized and singled out. Also, ALL cultures should be embraced, and thought in school, also unbiased, and not singled out.
