My wife has insulin resistance and PCOS and it is VERY difficult for her to lose weight...I want to know if there are any cheats that she could consider...keep in mind that she was walking 2-3 miles to get to Curves, she'd work out and then walk back with about 2 liters of water...Hydroxycut? Dexotrim? ANYTHING? SHE HAS LOST ALL HOPE...the weight that she had from her first pregnancy would NOT come off...and now she can't get back to the form she used to have.

i have pcos and weight loss meds are not the answer and are really bad for you. especially since she has pcos. the best thing to do is follow a diabetic diet. cut back on simple carbs eat more vegetales...there is a really great book, The PCOS Diet Book by Colette Harris. i would strongly suggest it.

as far as losing wieght fast...for a short while she could completely cut carbs from her diet however this is unhealthy. losing large amounts of weight quickly is not healthy.

dieting is frustrating however, especially when you have pcos because weight loss is so slow. walking is excellent and drinking tons of water.

im sorry, there is no easy answer, that is one of the many things about this condition that is very disheartening. that book is excellent though and i strongly suggest it.

also, maybe she would want to join an online support group. that can be very helpful and encouraging. just in the fact that you know you are not alone.

God Bless.

Hi there,

I am in the same boat. Diabetic type 2, had pcos - now nearly menopausal so it has gone away.

What I am doing to lose weight now (22 pounds down from my all time top weight) is anti-yeast, anti-gluten (my husband's allergy) and anti-sugar diets combined. The systemic yeast infection I have produces ethanol according to "The Yeast Syndrome" by John Trowbridge, M.D. Ethanol is an alcohol, which is a carbohydrate - the last thing we need in our systems if we are insulin resistant.

If your wife has picked up a yeast syndrome (75% of women in America have some form of yeast infection - vaginitis - during their lifetimes), then it will be frustrating all her efforts to lose weight and I don't think diet meds will help. Search Yahoo!Answers for yeast or candida, to see what has been responded to other questions. Check it out on Google.

Hope this helps.

I eat low calorie. And so far have lost 30 pounds. I eat normally lots of veggies, fruits, lean meats, whole grains, cereal, soy milk, and fat free yogart. No soda tea or water only And on rare occasions I will treat myself Fourth of July I had burgers, chips and beer, Next day was back to veggies and fruit. Last nite had taco pizza. But then make sure did yoga next day. Exercise and a well balanced diet is the best weay to go.

pick up a 5 or 10 pound weight at the gym and visualize that weight coming off holding the weight in your hands helps bring home just how heavy even 5 pounds of extra fat can be

Baggy clothes hide the body and encourage lounging around. So even if you're relaxing at home, wear fitted clothes to help keep you on track.
