Greatchick, you're really twisting things up, so I have to wonder what's going on. In my previous answer, I wrote:
<< No beginning ballet program is going to require you to perform a solo.>> And that is the truth. So somebody is very confused here.
What kind of "dance audition" is this? You a) claimed it was ballet and b) that you're a beginner. Are you fooling yourself and trying for something that you're not qualified for? If so, you're going to be crushed and humiliated. Not even a beginner's jazz audition would require a solo.
Proper dance training - in any style - is based on FIRST learning proper technique. Either this program is run by people who don't know what they're doing, or you're not telling them and/or us the whole, true picture, either through confusion or deception. Wishful thinking is not going to help you to become a well-trained dancer who can dream about dancing professionally, OK? I'm sorry if I sound harsh. I've spent a lot of time trying to advise you. Please take my advice from the other answer to check out "Ballet Talk for Dancers."

Music is a definite plus. They probably won't require it for the audition, but they very well could get bored and not pick you because of it. Can you add some music to the dance you already have?

You don't need music...you already have what i sense is a beautiful dance routine --- just go out there with confidence and perform it like the winner that you are, and you will do well in your audition...good luck.

dancing with musicv makes u hv specific routines for certain beats u hv to dance in rhythm. Ur boyfriend may be partly right u can dance without music bt it depends on ur passion for dance. if u enjoy dancin u will find urself movin by urself without even thinkin about it. U can be the best judge to that

Hi,
The judges will be evaluating you on choreography, creativiity and musicality among other things. Musicality is the fit of your movement and the music. Its makes the difference between an ordinary and a memorable dance.
Take some music...
Make it music that lifts and inspires you.

I would base my decision on the program that you are auditioning for and the style of dance that the program usually uses. Keep in mind, it is ALWAYS a good idea to have a backup. Good luck!!

I would have something choreographed to music as well as good technical examples of leaps, turns, floorwork, footwork, etc.
You did not say what you are auditioning for.
Cheerleading, theater, video, TV...
The type audition would determine whether music is needed.

You don't NEED music. You should only use it if it will help your perform at your best. If you have a strong routine without music...GO FOR IT!!!
