Everyone is talking about getting the tranny rebuilt. Not yet. Torque converter, try that first, its going to be a lot cheaper than a rebuilt tranny and when you rebuild the tranny its recommended to replace that anyhow. If that doesn't fix it, clutchpacks are the problem. They are proably grabbing too early or even one set is stuck together, highly unlikely, if you are a doit yourselfer, autos are going to be a nightmare if you've never worked on one.

without a road test it is hard to tell you what is going on.ideally it is best to check the transmission oil while warm and engine running.be sure the fluid is within the crosshatch marks on the dipstick.the fluid condition should be bright red and NOT have a burned odor to it.if any of these conditions exist it is a wise idea to have the fluid flushed completely out and new fluid installed however internal damage may already have happened and the flush maybe futile.this is also assuming that engine performence is tip top before addressing any transmission problems so as not to confuse an engine and transmission problem it is best to seek the advice of your local professional mechanic good luck

Its funny you asked that question. My transmission needs rebuilt in my Mazda, beause it burned up. If I had known that I was suppose to get the transmission fludid flushed and new put in every so many thousand miles, than I wouldn't have to go through all of this stress now. Read your manual to see when you are suppose to get it flushed out. Mine had fludid, but it was too late. It will save you appx. $2,700.00 for a rebuilt. That includes labor.

maybe dirty transmission filter, if oil is a brownish color instead of red the clutch plates maybe burnt, even though it is not a standard trans all transmissions have clutch plates, clutch plates have a brown leather type material on the outside to keep them engaged if material starts to wear it can cause trans to slip

if skip u mean slips. if the engine speed increases (RPM) but the vehicle speed (MPH) does not then the transmission is slipping and you might have to get it rebuilt. try getting the fluid and filter changed and see if it gets any better.

might be a lock up solenoid. (a smaller gear that keeps the transmission locked in the gear it's supposed to be in)
