an infrared port is usually on the side or back of a laptop computer. It usually looks like a black shiny square that does not stick out or look like anything would plug into it.

Infrared is simply the type of technology that a remote control uses. If you look at the top of a remote you will see something similar a lot of times.

It's very unlikely a desktop computer has built-in infrared. Look for a shiny black plastic rectangular lens on either side or the back of your laptop. If you have an IR device (cell phone?), place its IR lens 4-6 inches away and transmit - Windows makes a very distinct sound when they find each other. Good Luck!

The IR port will be in the back of your computer(wether laptop or desktop). This is to transfer files and data without a direct cable(wire )connection. These are seldom used due to the slow speed of data transfer,(say laptop to laptop). It it kind of a dark translucent window similar to your remote reciever on your VCR/DVD or TV front pane. I hope this helps you out!!

It's the black-tinted lens or area somewhere located inside the computer.
