HELP!!!! I have an older I pod and my computer wont recogonize it...?

I use to use this ipod with my other computer but I bought a new computer along with the new ipod. My computer sees the new ipod but not the old one Why??? I am using the USB not the the original Firewire is this why ???

Update the ipod software at:
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/
Find your model and download to last software update they did for that model

go online to the company of the I-Pod and check for drivers for that unit, if they don't have them there are several online driver sites.
