Thought I should let you know my boss is aware she is an ex user but has now switched to drugs in the form of a pill, however you can tell she still smokes crack

I don't think I ever have. Then, again...
When I was a teen I worked at a restaurant with this guy. I had only suspected that he was crazy addicted to weed (I don't mean recreationally; I mean he smoked weed morning, noon, and night.)
He went from very hard working to extremely selfish, showed up late to work, didn't contribute much, was often sluggish. Money was sometimes missing from the register - not enough where the police needed to be called, but enough to leave us suspicious. Eventually, he started forgetting when he had to work, and the managers let him go.
It's possible that he had moved on to some other more serious drugs.

I used to work as a bellman and we managed just fine. In fact, when he was "up" he was so energetic that you always made more money because he pestered the hell out of guests until they tipped his ***. Plus, he used to play the harmonica which was just perfectly random.
He eventually got fired because his "down" side began to dominate.

I always kept my crackhead co-worker on the edge of his seat. People who do crack are somewhat paranoid so as long as you can keep them on edge, they dont cause any problems.
