It was British band Sweet. It originally appeared on their 1974 album Desolation Boulevard. In 1975, Sweet went back into the studio to re-arrange and record a more pop oriented version of track "Fox On The Run",.

Sweet's first self-written and produced single, "Fox On The Run" (March, 1975) was released worldwide and instantly became their biggest selling hit, reaching number one in Germany and Australia, number two in Great Britain and Holland and number five in the U.S.A. when released in 1976.

Sweet

If you like music from that era I would recommend the Dazed and Confused soundtrack. That song is on it as well as many others from the mid 70s.

The rock version would be Sweet. If you are talking Bluegrass, there are several variations in that genre.
