The Superbowl may be the highest rated event in 3 out of 4 years. The numbers don't lie that Worldwide the World Cup rates higher then the Superbowl. As to American football never becoming big worldwide give them time. Remember the NFL is over 75 years old.

Football had its struggle here in the states and was almost ended. No one else in the world has the ability to attempt to put together a team or league. Also, the Western influence on the world itself leaves people envious and jealous of what we have and can do. This reinforces the fact that no one would dare attempt to copy us and become vulnerable to being embarrassed or ridiculed for appreciating something American. In other words they are too proud to admit that American football is a dominating force and any attempt to make it global or Olympic would be an embarrassment

3 weeks later they took the tape to China and recorded 3 million plus watch it , The Big Refrigerator William Perry fans World Wide.

well, i'd think, firstly, it's doing well in canada, or a version of it is, so you'd have to say, it's not only a phemomenon in america.

it's also popular in mexico, though no one in the nfl is interested in investing in mexico just yet.

europe is the only place they're trying to hit for money and interest....and europeans are into soccer. i'd guess, honestly, that a lot of people are turned off by two things in football.

1) it's slow. the constant breaks slow things down.
2) it's confusing. how many girlfriends have you had to explain the rules to? answer: all of them so far...except for the ones that simply told you they hated football.

soccer? basketball??? very simple sports.
notice how basketball has caught on much more than football, internationally speaking.

i'll give a third reason.

3) cost. too much gear for most kids to develop an interest in the sport. to become popular, a sport requires a fan base. the majority of the world's population ain't rich enough to pay for football gear.

they get a soccer ball and play barefoot and dream of making it in soccer....or get a basketball and do the same.

The NFL is actually looking for other markets to join with the NFL that's why they have been playing pre-season games in other places. And of coarse the pro bowl is played in Hawaii. I personally don't think it will ever change but we may bring people from other contries to play for the NFL. It is pretty much the same with all american sports NBA, WNBA, NHL and MLBA. Except some of these are olympic games so there are other countries to compete. Indeed it is thank you for pointing that out if this were a geography question you would have nailed it...!

Well, many countries simply don't have the funds to create gigantic football fields with yard lines, goal posts, proper equipment, or even an american football. The rules are a bit complicated to get a hang of quickly, too.

In comparison to soccer, all you need is something to kick around, and there are many, many less restrictions. That's why soccer or 'football' is so popular around the world.

Because football in America is more like armored rugby. Real football is played in Europe. Americans only want to watch what they are good at and we are good at our armored rugby and stink at the real game of football. So we will continue to watch our amored rugby
