In 2001 I went to a Dr. because my husband and I had been TTC for almost 2 years with no luck. He ran tests and bloodwork and said I had PCOS. Ok, so I had to stop going to him because We had no insurance, was never treated for it in any way. 2 years after that I got pregnant with my son, without any medication. My son is almost 3 now and were ready for baby # 2. We tried for a year then I went to another Dr. (I hadnt had a period in almost a year and have all symptoms of PCOS) He ran all the same tests and said I was fine. No PCOS. He prescribed Metformin to regulate my cycles. Ive been taking it for a lil over a month with one period so far. Whats the deal?? Did I or do I still have PCOS? If theres nothing wrong with me why do I still have the symptoms of PCOS?? HELP?? Any one got any advice?

If your doctor put you on Metformin, he obviously must think you have PCOS. Otherwise, why did he treat you for it?! I have no idea why he would tell you he *didn't* think you had it and then treat you for it. I would suggest you switch to a more honest doctor.

I have PCOS and was able to concieve on Metformin within a year, after 5 years of infertility treatments and IVF. I didn't know they could determine PCOS with just bloodwork though. I thought you had to have an ultrasound too? The metformin will help with the weight ( I lost 15 lbs almost immediately) and the hormone/insulin problems that come with PCOS but not with the hair growth.

PCOS can be difficult to deal with. Without seeing the ultrasound and from the information given I can not answer the question of if you have PCOS. I know the symptoms and also know that if you have it your very luck to have conceived. My ex-wife and I never did in almost 10 yrs of marriage. My advice is to get a second opinion if you have the means to do so.

yes ask the second doctor why the first was wrong some tests are badly done in the lab and folks have been given radiation for benign growths ask and dont be afraid to consult a new doctor if you must but if hes got a good attitude talk it out
