I know it takes 12 months to be a year old but why can't we start counting when we are concieved. We are alive then. So by the time we are three months old we should be considered a year old and have our birthday.

Well I think that its only logical to starting counting from Birth, that's why its called a Birthday not Conceptionday. Birth brings you into the world, and begins your natural life, yes you exist in the womb, but you are not earthed from it yet, and therefore cannot celebrate a "birth"day at 3 months old. Hope it helps :)

Its more difficult to determine an exact conception date than a birth date.

Although, some doctors may use conception dates with premature babies. So, if a baby is born at 6 months gestation, he/she is 3 months premature. When the baby is chronologically 3 months old, he/she will be at the level of development of the normal newborn. Therefore, the kid will appear to be developing slower than a normal 3 month old. So, some doctors may prefer to call this premature baby a newborn when he/she is 3 months, but its just too confusing to do so.

Tradition and the people that support abortion contrary to medical science, general biology, and common sense have determined that "life" does not occur at conception but rather when you are born. Therefore it is legal to kill a human who is not yet "alive." I know, I am still trying to figure that insanity out. "Born" is a relative concept. Is it when you come out, take your first breath, the umbilical chord is cut, or your father who got ripped off in the divorce stops paying child support payments? Try and tell any pregnant mother that they do not have a living life form in them. Notice what their reply will be.

because before that you are one with the mother

after you are born you are "cordless" & on your own or you...

thats when you would begin the counting

the better quesion is why do we say a baby is 18 months old instead of 1 year & 6 months?

thanks,

ss

The Chinese calculate age based on the lunar cycle not the calendar year.

Some places actually do that... as soon as you're born... you're a year old. I think Korea did it for awhile... I'm not sure if they still practice that though.
