no its not, you need to ask people for reference. Some people give website addresses here that have a lot of adwares and trojans like http://www.games.com That site is FULL of adwares. You shouldnt download just anything unless you know the site has people who visit it often and never complained.

You should get some free antivirus protections like http://www.avast.com or http://www.grisoft.com/doc/1

I usually use mcafee because I paid for it, but the free ones can be used if you really dont want your computer totally vulnerable for attacks.

No its not safe to download from any website.
Heres a tip. Go to microsoft, and search the word antivirus,
it will give you a list of antivirus sites to go. Find
the antivirus partners and download etrust antivirus.
It will last free for 365 days!
Then you are free to download anything because when you download something it will run real time and delete the virus off the file. Just like that!! Have fun surfing!

I don't think there is any way of knowing whether or not you will download a virus when downloading unless you have a virus protection program or you are a computer programmer and know the file extensions to watch out for.

install a free antivirus program like avg - and use spyware - this will make it harder to get a virus - however, there are viruses you can get anyway - actually the antivirus programs just remove a virus if you get it - you have to be diligent about running the program daily - there is no guarantee of absolute safety - but that's what life is about - take chances or you can't experience the world - i'm sure you don't wear a surgical mask or sterile gloves every time you go out of the house - you constantly expose yourself to germs every day, but that's how you experience life - stop obsessing - have a good time!!!

It is not safe to download just anything off the internet. You can easily get your computer infected with spyware, adware, or pick up a trojan or virus.

The best thing to do is only download from trusted websites, and only download attachments in your email from friends that you know or other known email addresses.

If you use yahoo or msn for your email, then they scan your email attachmetns before you download them. Make sure that you also have up to date virus protection, along with spyware and adware programs.

First, you can try to google the site that you are downloading from so see if it may give viruses. Second, try not to download anything from a site that may look bad.

There is no way to tell if something is safe or not. Get some kind of virus protection NOW! The internet is not a safe place. Also, get spyware protection, such as ad-aware from lavasoft.com.

As many people tell you have anti-viurs running in the back round, but they dont detect every thing. I have had norton and it does not detect everything,so every time you download some thing right click on file and choose scan with norton anti-viurs (or what ever anti-viurs thing you use) Virues dont do any damage until the program is run so keep that in mind.

You NEED protection against viruses. Norton is supposed to be the best, but I use Lavasoft and AVG and haven't had any major problems. It all depends on what sites you visit. I've got friends who frequent porn sites and they've always got problems with stuff getting in. Nothing's foolproof though.
