I guess I'll just echo timberframe. Two stories require less foundation materials, less roof framing (typ, but not always) and of course less roofing. And you have less of a footprint, so you have more yard.
The con's of two stories, many designers don't know how to design them. I know, I've had to fix the designs of some people. The problem is some people don't know how to transfer the roof load to the second floor down to the first floor bearing walls to the foundation. I've seen it too many times. Ranches with trusses are easier to design.
The other con with two stories is that the have more wasted space in hallways on the second floor.
And the last con is heating and cooling the second floor, but that depends on your climate.
However, if you get a good plan, the two story is typically more efficient.
You may want to look at this option, if your lot is sloping enough, build a ranch with a walkout basement. Initially, you don't have to finish it, but later you can add value to your home by finishing it. Just a thought.

Depending on where you live,It will cost you a lot more on heating or cooling a two story house than one. And it will be hard to keep the temperature constant in all the house. Example hot air rises and cold air will want to stay at the bottom.

i'm taking my hubby to a comedy club this evening as a wonder. It became $17 a cost ticket. i do not comprehend what your budget is, yet i imagine that is a good suggestion!! or you need to bypass to Taco Bell and grab some food, andcontinual someplace distant, and positioned a blanket on your motor vehicle and sit down and performance a previous due evening picnic. Then watch a movie or look on the celebrities or play a card recreation and do inspite of you human beings do! :)

In the long run it would cost less because a two story house will go up in value a lot faster.

It is according where you live. Wood prices are high right now and with hurracane season it will go up more. Also if you have small children they can fall down stairs (for some reason they love to play on them) If it is hot where you live it is hard to cool up stairs. You could put a finished basement under a one story home.

You should go with a dome home. They are wonderful structures that stand up to wind and snow better than conventional homes and their exterior hold itself up meaning you dont have to have interior walls if you don't want them! Plus they use less wood than a conventional home. You can buy a kit from this company "Timberline Geodesics". These things are the wave of the future in homes. Spread the word!!

What affects the cost of the home is square footage. If you have a square foot home either two story or one I believe the cost is the same.

It is always cheaper to go up than out, small foundation = less digging, concrete, rafters, single, etc. If you are looking at energy eff. check out SIPS, they are highly eff. and go up 40% faster than traditional stick built homes, also they are better quality than a modular home.
